Modern Foreign Languages
The MFL department caters for the more able linguist by ensuring they have access to extension tasks and providing opportunities for them to become more active and independent learners. They are given opportunities to promote their oral skills through extended speaking work and are encouraged to make use of other resources out of school – foreign TV, internet, radio – to develop their skills. Many tasks are open ended allowing able students to work at a higher level.
The dept. hopes to introduce a “language leaders” award in the future for ks4 students which would develop not only linguistic but other personal skills in our talented linguists.
Bi-lingual students are entered for GCSE exams as soon as possible and students with some second language capacity are encouraged to gain qualifications in two languages.
