Provision for the Gifted and Talented students

Provision for Gifted and Talented students will be included in the School Development Plan.

 Students will need frequent opportunities to apply their skills and understanding, and to develop their knowledge within a secure and flexible learning environment.

 This will:

 ·         Value learners’ own interests and learning styles;

·         Provide intellectual challenge via quality rather than quantity of work;

·         Provide self-initiated and self directed learning;

·         Encourage learners to be open to ideas and initiatives presented by others;

·         Encourage links across subjects and the entire learning programme.

 In developing an effective learning environment we will pay attention to:

·         Appropriateness of the curriculum

·         The importance of questioning

·         The role of assessment – both formative and summative

·         Talking about learning

·         Questions and challenge

 Enrichment

 The Coordinator for Gifted and Talented will plan an enrichment programme for those students identified as Gifted and Talented within the school. This will include sessions held within school led by school staff or external speakers, as well as educational visits. The aim of the programme will be to offer additional and different experience to broaden the perspectives of the Gifted and Talented cohort. In addition, the opportunity to meet with other Gifted and Talented students, sometimes across year groups, should be supportive.
